You've probably seen the acronym URL and thought to yourself, "I wonder what that means?" A URL might seem like a foreign concept to someone who isn't well versed in the language of the internet, but it's important to know what a URL is and what it does, especially if you're thinking about getting your own website.
URL is an acronym that stands for Uniform Resource Locator. That's a complicated name for a simple concept: your URL is how customers find your website when they type your URL directly into their browser's address bar.
Another name for URL is a web address, and when we think of URL's in terms of an address, the concept becomes a bit easier to understand. Think of your URL as the physical address of your home or business. When you're trying to tell someone how to get to a location, or when you type in an address into your GPS, you're putting in a specific location that someone needs to know in order to navigate to a set location.
Your URL works in the same way. When you give a customer your web address, such as www.atwillmedia.com, you're giving them a specific address that they can type into their address bar in order to travel to your website directly.
Your address bar is located at the top of your browser, and usually features a series of letters and number that form your URL, such as www.google.com.
In other words, if you want someone to be able to check out your website, you have to give them your URL if you want to make sure they get to your website successfully!
Your URL is also a great way to promote your business to customers, but your URL is useless if you don't share it with people! That's why it's important to put your URL on all your promotional materials, like business cards and advertisements.
You wouldn't give a customer a business card without your contact info or your store's address, would you? Then don't leave your URL off of your promotional material either!
Your URL is a simple but powerful tool for helping bring new customers to your website. Be sure to tell everyone you can about your web address, and promote your Atwill Media website to the world!
